This is a personal unsolicited recommendation from
the webmaster (Rons big brother) Before I visited The Rookery, I asked Ron a lot of questions, you need answers to design a site like this. I asked if was easy to find, because 5 miles out of town and I am a lost soul, no problem he said, he was right. How far are the nearest shops, just down the road he said, how about food, takeaways, restaurants, beaches etc. close he said. How about trains, buses and taxis I asked, closer he said. So I asked if he was in the middle of town, oh no, but you can see it he said. I couldn't understand, without being there, how everything was as stated, trust me it is! Now what follows is cheesy, but true! I am not one for walking, but one day my wife and I walked down to Porthminster Beach, very pleasant, and lucky us, there was a family of Dolphins playing in the Bay, not an everyday occurance. No camera and no binoculars to hand, so I said 'bother & other words' and just sat and jealously watched the hire boats wizzing round with them, very relaxing. Anyway the tide went out and we decided to walk to the harbour along the sand, it was almost like walking under water without the water. The ripples in the sand, seaweed on the rocks, little puddles and rivulets of water, looking up to the jetty walls, several hours on and we would be walking under twenty feet of sea. The rooms were everything I expected, the views beautiful and the breakfast was the best I've had in a long time, even the annoying guest who changed her mind twice after sitting down, ate well. I was truly amazed at the variety of the breakfast menu, so much so, I ate the unwanted fruit platter after my 'full english'. Ron and Barb are a mine of local information, things to do, places to see, times to see them and places to eat, it is definitely worth asking even if you are sure. I would highly recommend putting aside the first few days for relaxing, local walks, views and shopping, to unwind, take it easy and watch the world go by. Don't rush around like a headless chicken, go the cornish way, and do everything 'drektly', if you dont understand this now, two days of St Ives and you will ! I know he is my brother and Barb is my best sister-in-law (I've only one brother!) but I cannot recommend his Guest House highly enough, and I have recommended it to any one who will listen. If you want to see some boring pictures of places nearby, look for the 'Rook' on the directions page! |
